Why an Education Revolution?
Posted by velichik on November 2, 2009
Some of you may be asking – really, a Revolution in education??? Why not just gradually accept a few changes at a time, no need for a Revolution. Well, I don’t think we have a choice. I’ve posted my thoughts in about this in the page linked above entitled “Why an Education Revolution?” Happy reading and please let me know of your thoughts – Do we really need a Revolution?

The beginning of a very long battle…

“Technology, that’s like me getting a projector in my room, right? Boy, I wish I could have that technology!” Its for comments just like this one that I am beginning this battle. Having worked in public education for 9 years now, I believe that I have at least some experience to express my thoughts, especially when it comes to technology and education. Through working directly with people like Scott McLeod and Aaron Doering while getting a MEdin Educational Leadership with an emphasis on Educational Technology, I have come to realize how powerful and wonderful technology can be for us in K12 – and its NOT just about getting a $1000 dollar piece of equipment mounted to your ceiling!
I begin this blog with two purposes:
1) I want this to be a teacher-friendly place, where educators can come to learn about how the internet is not just a mega-encyclopedia for finding information, but a place where people and ideas can connect and develop. I hope to make frequent posts of practical applications of web 2.0 tools. I hope to use this place as a source for bouncing off ideas and assisting teachers that see what the future holds with technology.
2) Using the pages feature on this blog, I plan to collect data, articles, links and other such information that will help us (meaning teachers, support staff AND administrators) understand what the future can and will look like. I don’t want us to wake up one day and realize that we are way behind, with so many tools to individualize education and no sense on how to use them or how to even get them into the school. Although the future is quite hazy, I still think that with the right preparation, we will not be surprised when technology runs 100% of the school day.
Therefore, I start this battle. Of course, I do not do this alone, but rely heavily on other blogs, on people who are willing to stick their necks out and on the sheer passion that students deserve the very best that we can offer. Let the battle begin!
